Cradle of St Rose

A place of penance and prayer of St Rose of Viterbo.

THE GREAT STORY ALSO PASSES THROUGH SORIANO

Going up the road that leads to the Orsini Castle, a wider space opens up, called “Cuna di Santa Rosa” (Cradle of St Rose), a rocky ravine where the young Rose of Viterbo took refuge on the harsh night of 4 December 1250, following her exile ordered by Emperor Frederick II of Swabia. Here an angel appeared to her, announcing the death of Emperor Frederick II. After a few days, the angel’s prophecy came true; Rose continued her work evangelising in the region around Soriano until her death, a few months later, at only 18 years old.
